The day after the first snow. Nasty slushiness is all I can describe it as. If you look at pictures of Afghanistan from before 2004 you will see a fine layer of sand and grit on everyone. That is how the dirt is out here, almost like talcum powder. Mixing that with snow and water makes the places very messy. Although it snowed it didn't really freeze over for another few days, and by that time it had all melted. I want the snow to stay on the ground so I have a chance to test out my Yak Trax. But, I have a feeling that before too long I will get my chance.
